And we begin.

After hours (and hours and hours) of auditions, callbacks, and some seriously painful deliberations, we finally have a cast, and I am really excited about them. We have a good mix of old faithfuls and newbies, and managed to cast everyone in roles that they will carry well, but will stretch them and make them work at their art.
In this whole process I have learned some things about myself as well. I have been pretty hesitant about the whole directing thing, since I have no experience, no education, and no clue. What I do have, apparently, are what we call in the theatre world "good instincts". In my case, these "good instincts" come in the form of making up warmups and acting exercises that make L (the real director) ask me where I got them, and when I tell her I made them up she acts all impressed and stuff. And here I thought I was just making the kids make funny faces for my own amusement. I have to give credit where it is due though. I have come to the conclusion that the best training a novitiate director get get for free is to watch Whose Line is it Anyway? on ABC family. If you have never seen it, you are missing out...unless you have no sense of humor, in which case you won't get it.

Then again, those with no sense of humor stopped reading this blog a long, long time ago.
