Ah, the joys of living alone...

I have lived alone for several years, and I love it. I love that I never have to fight anyone over what music to play, that I can watch an entire season of Friends or Buffy the Vampire Slayer in one day and no one will mock me, and that I can stay up until 2 am reading and no one gets annoyed.
I have had my fair share of roommates, more than my share, in fact, and they have ranged from the wonderful to the psycho to the smelly. There was the girl who hired other girls on the hall to baby-sit her Cabbage Patch Kids (yes, that's plural) while she went to class, the one who would cry if I played any music with a drum beat and threatened to report me to the RA for playing a Beach Boys christmas song in our room (she was the same one who, after there was a fire in the Biology department, commented "I don't know why they need to rebuild it, it's not like you guys DO anything." She was a real peach.) There was the girl who was very sweet but found bathing an unnecessary chore, and the girl who would hang out of our dorm room in her bra and yell down at boys below.
I have also had some wonderful roommates -- another Lisa who helped me through one of themost difficult periods in my life, Lori, who always seemed to have Chick-fil-A coupons she was willing to share, and Janelle, who was so wonderful she defies description. My very first roommate was I girl named Lisa in Governor's school, and we used to have lots of fun blasting Color Me Badd's "I Wanna Sex You Up" out our window at the couples making out in the courtyard below. Good times.
As much as I love living alone, I would have paid to have any one of those former roommates here last night, crazy or not. It's no fun being alone at midnight when you hear screaming sounds outside and have to call the cops, and your only solace is to turn on all the lights, inside and out, and double check the locks. I was very happy to see Lynchburg's finest last night. I love my online friends, and they were there for me, but there are a few moments in life when nothing will do but flesh and blood, and that is one of them.
But for the time being there is no one else here, and most of the time I love that. And when I don't, I will just cuddle my Louisville Slugger a little closer and be thankful that at least it doesn't hog the remote.

Hey Erin sweetie. As I was reading your post I thought of a single gal who prayed for God to send her a neighbor... just a neighbor to be her friend... God did send her a neighbor and eventually she married him. Ask God for what you need he cares and will supply abundantly. (maybe not a husband but you get the point :)

I'm confused...what happened last night? There was a break in or something next door? scary! I've had a few doosies for roomates too. heather, if you read this, was my favorite (i guess i SHOULD say except for Alex, but let's be honest here...:)

Hey, I just tried to send you a forward (a really mushy gushy totally worth reading, forward) but it got sent back saying the address was not valid...what's your email address these days?

I have a brand spanking new email -- erinr42(at)gmail(dot)com.

I have no idea what happened -- I heard screaming outside and called the police. I still don't know what it was.
