Girl time

Yesterday I got back from the beach -- I went with two of my favorite people in the world. There is nothing I can imagine as wonderful as spending a weekend at the beach with my girlfriends, except maybe spending a week, or the whole summer. It was much needed after the past couple of months, which have been a bit challenging.
The last night we were there we took a bottle of Reisling and our plastic hotel cups out on the beach, sat on straw mats and were quiet together. There were couples everywhere, and as I was looking around at them I realized, for the first time in a while, how happy I am with my life, solitary though it may sometimes be. I love my freedom; I love that I can decide I want to go to the beach and just go, or go get a pair of shorts just because I want them, or spend the day watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer without being mocked by anyone. I love that I can bring home a turtle without needing to consult anyone.
Most of all, I love my girl time. We talk about everything, we can share our hearts, and there is never fear of rejection or ridicule. There is nothing quite like laughing at anything and nothing with people you love, who you know love you. I admire my friends so much. They are strong, intelligent women who have worked through lots of crap, survived some very difficult life events, and emerged as beautiful, delightful people. Sarah and Kristie, I love you. Thanks for an amazing weekend, and amazing friendships.
